We all want to enjoy our candles as long as possible, right? Luckily, we at Vlam van An have three tricks for you so you can make sure you get every penny and all the joy out of every candle you buy. You spend your hard earned money on this special handmade candle so it would be such a waste if you’d have to throw half (or the whole thing!) away just because you didn’t know about these three tips below.

2. The First Time
Always make sure the first time you burn you candle it is lit for at least 2 – 4 hours. You see, candle wax has a memory. Which means that the next time you’ll light your candle the wax will only melt as far as it did as the first time you burned it. So your first burn will determine how much of the wax gets used in total. This way you allow the candle to get a wax pool across the entire surface and thereby making sure you use as much of the wax every time you burn your candle.

2. Trim
Before every burn, trim your wick to the length of 1/4th of an inch/5 mm. This will get you a longer, cleaner burn and avoid soot. It will also prevent the flame from getting too high and starting to flicker/smoke which is cosy, but very dangerous. Next to that the bigger flame will burn up more of the wax (because it’s bigger and hotter) which means your candle will be gone much sooner.

3. Keep in the Dark
To make the lifespan of your candle even longer store it in a dry, dark and cool place. When kept in direct sunlight the scent of the (essential) oils will fade and/or the candle will warp. Which basically will make your beautiful high quality candle, loose all it’s benefits, worth or maybe even become useless.

Plus,
did you know soy wax candles burn slower and longer than most candles? This is simply because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, which is what most mass production candles are made with. So even though investing in a good quality soy wax candle will cost you a bit more at first, in the long run you’ll buy a lot less candles because of their longevity.

When making sure you act on the three things above every time you light your candle you’ll get to enjoy it to as long as possible and squeeze every drop of wax and scent out of it. Do you have any tips and/or tricks you use to get more out of your candles? Please share them in the comments below; I would love to know!

Lots of Love, Anna
